The Red Queen: Wasteland Alice

Renton City Comic Con: The Red Queen (SKSProps, Wasteland Alice) **1st Place

This costume was a beast! There are so many fine details that I wanted to get just right – it was really challenging.  I’m glad I saw the whole experience through to the end.  The final product was well worth the sweat, blood and tears.  And the highlight of the whole experience?  I got to hang out with the master artist – Steven K Smith!

If you are curious about how I made this costume, check out the competition book I put together.  There are tons of pictures, explanations and inside details about the entire build.

I also had the opportunity to get some great shots of this costume with another fantastic cosplayer, Modulus Props.  His Card Guard cosplay is the perfect balance of creepy and fantastic.

For me, the most amazing moment in this costume was getting to hang out with Steven K Smith – the talented creator and artist whose imagination is responsible for the outstanding Wasteland Alice concept art.

The RenCon costume contest was a new experience for me – and I took home 1st place!  The panel of judges were all cosplayers that I love and follow (and fangirl over), so I was really nervous to stand up and talk about my costume.  I’m so glad I rehearse (and rehearsed and rehearsed) in the hotel room beforehand.  Take a look at the awesome judges (front row) and incredible competition (back row).

And finally, here’s a couple of amazing pictures my handler snagged at Rose City Comic Con of the entire costume.
