I think my favorite part of this cosplay is the crown.  Despite the blood, sweat and tears literally shed during it’s construction, its a pretty cool piece.  Ultimately, this cosplay was a labor of love.  When I first saw Ganondorf, I immediately fell in love with the character design.  In addition to sewing, fabrication, and molding/casting, for this cosplay I got to play with some really cool special effects makeup.  I know ya’ll are green with envy.

If you’re curious about how I made this cosplay, check out the competition book I put together.  There are tons of pictures, explanations and inside details about the entire build.

Making Ganondorf

And can we just take a moment to appreciate some of the amazing people and cosplayers I had the chance to hang out with?!  OMG.  These cosplayers are legit!..and all so very very wonderful.  (Press X Props – wowza!)

Hanging out back stage with such amazing cosplayers was absolutely humbling and inspiring!  If you’ve ever competed, you know there’s a goodly amount of time spent hanging around and nervously waiting.  With such great company, time flew by!  And I learned some amazing tricks from this talented group.  (Huntress Creations, Dahlia Darling Cosplay, Cosplay Blast! and Kittylyn Cosplay)

I decided to take Ganondorf on stage and try my hand at competition this year.  My goal was plain and simple: improve stage presence.   I was fortunate to have a judge snap this awesome photo of me mid-pose.  I’m not competition expert, but I hope I’m getting better.

And to my absolute amazement, I won first in my category: Tinker, and second best in show!

For years to come, I think I’ll still feel astounded and intimidated and inspired by the tsunami of talent that floods RCCC every year.  It’s my favorite convention for exactly this reason.  Check out a couple other amazing pictures of this cosplay captured around the convention floor:
